A Moment of Truth on Climate Change
Climate Emergency Forum discusses the content of the recent UN Secretary General António Guterres’ speech given at the American Museum of Natural History where the need for urgent action is reiterated, saying "we are flirting with climate disaster.”
This video was recorded on June 12th, 2024, and published on June 23rd, 2024, and represents the opinions of the discussion participants.
The severe and disproportionate impacts of climate change on the world's most vulnerable populations, is highlighted emphasizing that those least responsible for the crisis are the hardest hit. It underscores the plight of the poorest people, particularly in regions like Latin America, Southeast Asia, and India, as well as indigenous communities, women, and girls.
The discussion also points out the staggering inequality in carbon emissions, noting that the richest 1% of humanity emits as much carbon dioxide as the poorest two-thirds. This disparity highlights the urgent need for climate justice, where those who contribute most to the problem should bear the greatest responsibility for addressing it. The dialogue calls for immediate and significant reductions in fossil fuel subsidies and emissions to prevent catastrophic global warming, emphasizing that the current trajectory is unsustainable and dangerous.
Furthermore, the dialogue touches on the broader implications of climate change, including its impact on global health, food security, and the ability to maintain peace and security. The increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events are causing widespread displacement and destruction, making it difficult for communities to recover. The dialogue stresses the importance of collective action and the need for systemic changes to the global economy to address these challenges effectively.
Finally, the dialogue reflects on the role of youth and grassroots movements in driving climate action. It acknowledges the critical contributions of young people and marginalized communities in advocating for climate justice and calls for their inclusion in decision-making processes. The dialogue concludes with a call to action, urging viewers to support climate initiatives and engage in efforts to create a more equitable and sustainable future.

its kind of shame that Trump and Biden and all the presidents and congresses before them have been quietly backing and subsidizing GHG emissions including fossil fuel production, see IMF webpages. Also, tax credits are listed somewhere also. Im voting for Cornel West who would stop this polluter subsidy. The point is instead of doing anything to encourage or require GHG reductions, governments are quietly deliberately doing the opposite - with our tax dollars Congress [and other , are supporting GHG emissions production by big industries all over the World.

Out of everything going on in the world today this is my biggest fear and concern (with a close 2nd trump election). I feel so horrible for all of the innocent animals who can't find water or get into an air conditioned room. I'm just one nobody but I can help a little by putting buckets and bowls of water not only in my yard but in the woods surrounding my yard. WE CAN ALL DO THIS!!! Pls pls pls do this for all of the animal's surrounding your home too! It doesn't take much and it goes a very long way. And keep filling them up regularly as the animal's do drink from all of them that you put out!!

The aerosol masking paradox makes abundantly clear that reducing emissions will only lead to a dramatic increase in temps. The heat is baked in & there is no way out! This has already been documented with the removal of the reflective cooling sulphates in shipping fuel.

It may be beneficial if climate presentations (U.N., etc.) which discuss the least responsible are hit the hardest to always fervently remind the audience that those who are most responsible will be able to avoid the impact the most--able to jet & travel privately to safehavens, with their extreme wealth buying their way into countries & garnering control of land in the few places impacted less (how much land on planet earth does 1% need for occupancy), live in bubbles of climate-controlled water-controlled air-controlled food-flourishing environments while the masses of all other living beings outside burn, suffocate, thirst, and starve to death, not to mention barbarism. All while those most responsible are least impacted--unless the ability of those most responsible is not allowed.

I've seen groups state that we are already past 1.5 degrees, due to a whole year of average monthly temperatures being over that value. Also while tiktok is a dumbing drug, I don't see how any intelligence is going to be ableprevent serious issues because of the amount of co2 and methane already in the atmosphere. We are facing the collapse of the world as we know it, taking a lot of species with us, and all we seem to do is accelerate toward the disaster.

If you believe that humans can control the climate with CO2, I think you have lost the ability to manage 6th mathematics. We have had ice ages with 0,6% (6000ppm) CO2 content in the atmosphere. We are now in a low of CO2 with 0.04% (400ppm) in the atmosphere. CO2 is not a control knob of the climate. The green house effect of CO2 starts diminishing already at 300 ppm. Focusing money on chasing CO2 molecules will have catastrophic effect not only on the world economy but also on the environment. I don't mind the idea moving away from fossile fuels but that is a job that will take at least a century. In just 10 years time the population of the globe has peaked. Stop with your alarmism. It is a lie and it antihuman.

You can't keep blaming oil a.d gas companies. It's up to governments to come up with a sensible transition. It's up to governments elected or otherwise to impose new policies to make the changes and reduce CO2. Western governments are already turning their back on climate change mitigation. .to sum up... nothing will happen until millions if not billions people die as a result...

Wow! The false narrative of CO2 as the seat of our global heating and imminent climate collapse has been brilliantly promoted by even the Climate Emergency Forum and its presenters, like our dear Carter here. How about we just stop for a minute and consider where that CO2 is coming from: primarily our incessant INDIVIDUAL burning of fossil fuels for transport, manufacturing and electricity generation (aka "carbon footprint"). But nothing about the massive amount of waste heat generated thereby, or the massive amount of waste heat generated by each and every human on the planet metabolizing carbon at 2,200 Kcal/d., times 8,000,000,000, or the 16,000,000,000 "domestic" farm animals doing the same? Hmmm? Ever hear the old sot: where there's smoke, there's fire? Boy are we stupid and gullible or what? Polymath Eliot Jacobson calculates that the current Earth's Energy Imbalance is the heat energy equivalent of 13 Hiroshima yield nuclear bomb blasts PER SECOND, so about 1,036,800 PER DAY. Of course that number includes a contribution from the Greenhouse effect, but nobody ever mentions that the number one (by weight) GHG is the 1 trillion tons of water vapor we are evaporating from our massively overheated oceans, all 321 million cubic miles of them, lately at about 70 degF. Get the truth, go to copernicus.eu and look for their "Climate Pulse" page, where you, too, can see the 0.20 degC daily ave. surface temp increases just since last year, which is heading us to 2.5 degC in 5 yrs., and 3.5 degC in 10 yrs. Anybody else hear an alarm bell? CLANG, CLANG, CLANG! No? Well, then enjoy your ride to hell on Earth.
